Leslie Schumacher…in her role as an artist:

“As an artist, I see art all around me. How the buildings

in town compliment one another. The sculpted arches at the

rooftops, the earth tone colors of the brick, the carefully

placed flowers in the stone pots thoughtfully spaced

throughout town. The way the white fluffy clouds slowly

passing by compliment the blue sky above. The fresh green

color of the leaves as they begin to emerge in the spring.
I think about life as a painting, sometimes dark and dreary, sometimes bright and cheerful.
Brain to hand…hand to brain…sometimes I wonder, which is in control.
I have been able to draw all my life. A gift. Sometimes the gift is still in
the wrapping paper sitting in the back of the closet collecting dust. Then,
one day, I notice the box, dust it off, remove the wrapping and spend hours exploring the gift and what it can produce. Then I will rewrap it. Sometimes
I add tape to all sides and it goes in the attic to be found again some day
long in the future. Life can be distracting.
As you will notice when you view my art I love to laugh. Life gets way too serious. We need to laugh. Walt Disney was my idol growing up. I pictured myself as a cartoonist working for him, making people laugh. My caricatures provided a stress release when I faced important and often serious issues while in the legislature.
My art is mostly detail work, every hair on the dog, every feather on the bird. But sometimes I need to be loose and free so I can breath.
I see my art as an extension of myself. My mood, success, failure, likes, dislikes and my age. Like a good wine…I intend my art to improve with age.
I am. Improving with age that is.
I hope you enjoy my art.”
